Woollen Socks - Sizes Guide

In the table below blue numbers relate to lengths and black numbers and letters relate to widths.

This table does not show each and every sock size, but it is presented in a way that makes it easy to extrapolate the entire Woollen Prosthetic Sock range of around 700 diffident socks. With variations of sizes, plies, thicknesses and colours.

All model numbers in the Woollen Prosthetic Stump sock category start with one letter (Except the bulbous SSY sock which starts with 'SS') and followed by three digits. The first 2 characters of a model number, such as A1, A2, C2 etc., refer to the width of the sock, Top x Toe. The last two digits (in blue) indicate the length.

The following is an example of how to work with this table:

As the first model number, A116 below, indicates, the width of the A1 sock is 7½" x 4½" (top x toe). Therefore all the available A1 socks of the lengths: 12", 14", 16", 18", 20" & 22", as shown, have the same width. If this is the correct width for you and you need a length of 20" your model number is A120, and the Item Name - AK 20x1.

Please note that the actual flat measurements of a sock may fluctuate by ±5%.

If the size you want is not within the measurements range below you may require a Made-To-Measure sock. However, if you are not limiting yourself to a pure wool sock only, you may also want to consider a sock from the Cool wool or the Fleecenette sock categories. These two types are considerably more stretchable and therefore can accommodate a much greater range of length/top/toe measurement combinations.

The SSY socks have a bulbous Toe end. The last 2 measurements of the SSY 18x1, above, are: the width of the narrowest point x the width of the bulbous. (ie. 2½x3)

Leg socks*are available in 6 different types:

Standard 6 ply.
Beige 6 ply.
Blue Cosy** 8 ply.
Extra Heavy Cosy 8 ply.
Extra Light Cosy 4 ply with Toe End reinforced to 6 ply.
Blue Tip 6 ply with Toe End reinforced to 8 ply.

*Leg socks Model number in the table above start with the letters: A, B, C, Q, S, & SS.

**Cosy means that the sock is brushed on the inside.

Arm socks* are available in 2 types with the option to have the Toe End reinforced to 6 ply:

Standard 4 Ply.
Beige 4 Ply.

Finally, once you have worked out your size, say for instance BK 24x2, click on the 'Woollen Socks' category> Select the 'Below Knee' subcategory> scroll down the list and click on 'BK 24x2'. Alternatively, take the shortcut and enter BK 24x2 (or the model number B224) in the 'Search' box above and click 'Search'. In the product page, click on 'More info' and then you can select Sock Type, Top End Finish, and the option of with or without Suspension Pin Hole.
